Thanksgiving #2

Happy Thanksgiving to all who live in the good ol’ USA!

I had my second Thanksgiving feast of the year with my WorldVenture family. It’s not quite the same as being home with my real family, but I am thankful to have friends here!

It wouldn’t be Thanksgiving at home without the smell of bread dressing cooking in the oven, so that’s what I brought to the feast.

There it is, waiting to be eaten!

I am thankful for a lot of things right now:

  • A family that loves me
  • The wonderful friends I have here
  • My health
  • The ability to do all kinds of things I enjoy
  • God’s everlasting faithfulness
  • Sunshine
  • Fresh air
  • Music
  • The fact that God knows all of me – He doesn’t just see one side of me or know me in one context; He knows all of me, and He wants me to continue getting to know Him better

“For now we see in a mirror dimly, but then face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I have been fully known.” – 1 Corinthians 13:12

Longing for intimacy with God is like longing for home. I see my family in the Skype video chat dimly, but next summer I’ll see them face to face. We glimpse God’s character through His actions in the world and through reading His Word and praying, but one day we will know Him fully, just as He fully knows us.

I am thankful that we have a God who does not hide Himself from us, but reveals to us what we are able to understand of Himself at each stage in our lives.
