Jury Duty

This week was an unusual week of school for the music department. We had juries for all private lesson students in middle and high school.

Each student played scales and one or two solo pieces. Each student’s private teacher was present at the jury, along with 1 or 2 other music teachers. It served as a check-up not only for the students, but also for the teachers.

It is interesting having multiple teachers cooperating and working together in this way. If we were each teaching lessons in our own private studios, it would be easy to get stuck in a teaching rut. Juries helped me to see each student from a different perspective. I like the positive dynamic we have here in the music department.
